Dr. Charlton G. Forbes Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Charlton G. Forbes Memorial Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to those attending a College or University. Dr. Forbes dedicated a large portion of his life to helping disadvantaged youth.  After his passing in 2008 his family has decided to continue on with Dr. Forbes' mission.

For 2008 we are offering one scholarship worth a minimum of, $3000, is available to students aspiring to attend a two- or four-year college, trade school, technical institute or other post-secondary education program. You must submit an essay answering the following question: Why is the completion of a postsecondary program important to you, and what do you hope to achieve once you get a degree?

There are no special eligibility requirements for the scholarship. All students may apply regardless of their race, nationality or financial status. We ask that each student who wishes to apply write a brief essay. The essay may be on any topic of your choosing as long as it includes:

   1. Your reason for deciding to attend college.
   2. Your chosen college major
   3. Any reasons for why you believe you deserve the scholarship.

Submission Details:

We ask that all essays be submitted to the email address below by May 31 , 2008.

All scholarship recipients will be notified and issued their awards no later than July 20th, 2008.

All essays or any questions regarding this scholarship may be submitted via email to strong79@starstruckfoundation.org.  Make sure to include all information that would be needed to contact you in response to your question or to notify you if you're selected for one of the scholarship awards.

The good Bro. Dr. Charlton G. Forbes was my teammate, friend and fraternity brother. As members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, we establish a relationship undeniable strengthen through our commitment to the uplifting of people in our communities.

Upon reading about the “Dr. Charlton G. Forbes 180 Degree Program” I became overwhelm with excitement because I know the principle of this program speaks to the core of my dear Brother. So I look forward to hearing more about the good works of the program and I will commit to doing what I can to support this initiative.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Forbes...Charlie as he was affectionately known back in Jamaica was my high schoolmate...we spent 9th through 11th grade together. Charlie always had the ability to keep a smile on your face and ever since we graduated in 1992 and he migrated to the USA I have been trying to make contact only now to learn of his passing...Charlie I am so sorry I did not get an apportunity to say a proper good bye but I can tell that all the brothers from STGC hails your accomplishment in the short time God allowed you to be here with us...I know heaven is a better place with you there...BIG UP MY YUTE
