Our Background
|
|
Jesse Curney III has been on a mission to save the lives of our youth for almost 20 years. During that time he was selected by Bishop Eddie Long to serve as CEO of several programs for troubled youth and families Project Destiny and Project Impact in DeKalb and Fulton counties (GA). Both programs assisted selected schools by providing guidance to students who face challenges, thereby decreasing behavior problems and contributing to teacher's ability to focus on instructing students.
In 2005 a collaborative effort was formed between Jesse Curney III and Larry Veal, Executive Director of B-Moe Positive, a program recognized by Gwinnett County Schools, as one of its most significant programs. After careful consideration, Star Struck Inc. was developed.
Star Struck began conducting weekly meetings in January of 2006 catering to students who are on the last leg of the schools discipline cycle. Coordinators conduct one-hour group sessions in addition to individual sessions with students. During these sessions, students agree to sign a "Behavior Contract", and are introduced to Star Struck's exclusive curriculum. This curriculum introduces behavior modification techniques that equip students with enhanced skills for dealing with life's challenges.
Since inception, Star Struck has positively impacted over four hundred students.

Larry D Veal , 180 Degree Program
As a high school freshman Larry received all “F’s" on his final report card and had been suspended over seventeen times for fighting. He was also well known in his Indianapolis neighborhood as a big troublemaker and gang member. Today he still carries scars from that time period, a metal plate in his mouth and the scars from having over three hundred fifty stitches on his back. However, that all changed when a member of from a rival gang moved into his neighborhood. He and his fellow gang members had a difference of opinion on how to address the matter. Larry thought they could handle the situation peacefully. The others thought differently. The outcome of this dispute culminated on a day Larry decided to go to school, while his fellow gang associates decided to take the matter into their own hands. It was that incident that made him decide to change his life for the better. Having departed from that way of living, He chose to seek a new way to spend his time. He soon found refuge in the teachings of the late Pastor Dr. Andrew J. Brown. For the first time, he was taught about making better choices and living right. The message came through loud and clear. By his senior year of high school, he was an honor roll student and the recipient of Broad Ripple High School’s “Outstanding Athlete Award” and “Best Mental Attitude Award.” From there he made a vow to use his life to help other troubled youth change theirs. He went on to earn a B.A. degree in Sociology-Criminology from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. He then worked as a state of Georgia corrections officer and a Fulton County juvenile probation officer before realizing that the only way to really make a difference would be to start his own business focusing on ways to motivate youth. Hence, the B-Moe Positive Company was established. The “Moe” was put in place as a remembrance of his oldest brother Charles Moore (aka Charlie “Moe”), who is currently serving time in prison along with his youngest brother, Kenny. Since its inception, the B-Moe Positive Company has contracted with a number of organizations to provide its services, including: the National Youth Crime Prevention Council, National Police Athletic League, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, NBA’s Orlando Magic, National Society of Black Engineers, National School Drop-Out Prevention Center and the Georgia, Florida and Alabama Departments of Education. Larry is the author of his autobiography entitled, “Like an Elephant on a Chicken Farm”, and the creator of the decision-making curriculum, I Have Will Power, whose concepts are giving hope to our youth. Atlanta’s Fox Evening News featured him as “A Man with a Message.” Larry has also been recognized by the White House, United States Congress, and many others. In 2006 he was awarded the “Making A Difference Award by the Gwinnett County N.A.A.C.P. and “ Outstanding Alumni” by Paine College.
